Our Dinosaur Encounter at Jurassic Kingdom

A close encounter with dinosaurs at Jurassic Kingdom in Manchester.

Recently we went to see the life-size dinosaurs at Jurassic Kingdom in Philips Park in Manchester. We'd seen a few of these on a local news programme a few weeks ago. Little Miss A does love playing with her toy dinosaurs so seeing some big ones was going to be quite an experience for her.

When we arrived, it was obvious we were in the right place as straight away there were dinosaurs before we'd even been through the ticket entrance. It's good that everyone can see a few without actually paying to go in. A good advertisement.

It was great to see Master R getting quite excited at seeing these large creatures. I wasn't sure how he would react and was worried he might be scared if anything, but he was absolutely fine.

I thought there would just be a few dinosaurs including the obvious favourites which would make sounds and move, but there were so many more. Each has a small board next to it with some information. There were lots of dinosaurs that Mr MoaB and I hadn't heard of so an education for us too!

We stopped about half way round to have our picnic lunch. There were some food stalls at various points but these did seem quite expensive. I'm glad we'd taken our own lunch.

Our favourite section was where there were a few more interactive elements. There was a large sandpit for excavating dinosaur bones. It was a shame there weren't any tools like brushes etc. for the kids to use to do this but Little Miss A still enjoyed playing in the sand. There was a moving ride which we paid for Little Miss A to have a go on. There was also a tent showing an educational film.

The most fun we had were at the big T-Rex head that you could go into and on the ride-ons. At first we didn't realise that you could ride them around, we thought they were static but then we spotted someone else riding around and that was it. Little Miss A wanted to have a turn riding each one.

It was a good experience particularly if your kids are really in to dinosaurs as there are just so many to see. I did a lot of dinosaur themed activities with the kids in the lead-up to us going to get us in the mood. Master R definitely has learnt that dinosaurs 'Roar' from the experience as he now picks up a toy dinosaur and says 'Roar'!

I was fortunate enough to win tickets through the Manchester Family Facebook page to the Jurassic Kingdom event at Philips Park in Manchester. Jurassic Kingdom is on tour around the UK at different parks so take a look at their website to see if it's going to be near you.
