Leighton-Linslade Children's Trail

The Leighton-Linslade Children's Trail is a fun trail of 22 artworks celebrating children's stories that takes you all around the town of Leighton Buzzard.

I've been wanting to do the Leighton-Linslade Children's Trail for a while and the opportunity arose when Mr MoaB's family came to visit us at the start of last month. It seemed like a great activity for Little Miss A to do with her cousins and actually got us all involved as we tried to spot the artworks. You have to look up, down and all around to find them all. We were determined to find them all so when we couldn't find one, we had to go back at the end and find it!

We started the Trail at the library on Lake Street, which was actually our first challenge as we've never been to Leighton Buzzard town centre before so it took us a while to find the library! Here we picked up copies of the Trail sheet with a map and clues. Alternatively, you can download and print off a copy of the Trail guide from the Leighton-Linslade Town Council website

Some of the quotes and sculptures are quite obvious which book they're from such as the Golden Ticket but I must admit that I'm not sure of all the references. At some point I must try to work out a few more of them.

If it was a hot day, then you could make a day of it by doing the Children's Trail and also spending time at the Splash Park and playground in Parsons Close Recreation Ground. Unfortunately for us it was too cold for the Splash Park this time.

We have since been back to Leighton Buzzard to the Splash Park and Little Miss A pointed out some of the sculptures as we passed them so it obviously made an impression on her as she remembered where they were.

It's such a great trail with so many interesting little sculptures to spot. It was a really fun thing to have done with Mr MoaB's family. Definitely something a bit different to do with kids and a really great way to explore the town as it takes you to parts that you might not know about.
