Waddesdon Winter Weekends - Being a Waddesdon Explorer

Monday, 7 March 2016

Last weekend we decided to head to Waddesdon for a couple of hours as we really wanted to get some fresh air but didn't want to go too far.

We took the courtesy bus and got off at the Stables as I'd seen that they are running children's activities every weekend as part of their 'Winter Weekends'. For £2 we picked up a Trail map with lots of challenges around the grounds for us to complete. The first of which was to decorate a bird and then this was put up on the wall in the Family Activity Room.

The 'Be a Waddesdon Explorer with Mimi' Trail is based on a points system, so the more you do, the more points you get and you can get Gold, Silver or Bronze. Some activities were worth more points than others. The best one for Little Miss A was finding objects that were red, green and brown as we're really trying to work on her colour recognition.

Not actually part of the Trail, we added on a walk around Miss Alice's Drive where we discovered lots of new nature areas and sculptures since our last wander around this part.

Some activities we had to do for Little Miss A, but she liked spotting the pictures around the gardens and carrying the special activity bag (returnable at the end of the Trail).

Initially we said we'd make sure that we got enough points for Silver but then we thought we might as well Go for Gold! That meant Little Miss A got to put her name up on the Waddesdon Wall of Fame!

It was a very cold morning, but we wrapped up warm and Little Miss A didn't seem bothered by the cold at all. It was me that was desperate for a hot chocolate to warm up after we'd been out for a bit!

We are so lucky to have Waddesdon so close and that they are so family-friendly, putting on so many activities throughout the year for kids. Little Miss A would be happy to just visit the Woodland Playground, but there's always something else to see or do.

If you're local, it's well worth subscribing to the Events on the Waddesdon Manor Facebook page to keep up-to-date with what they've got going on.
