Terrific Thame Play Day

Saturday, 1 August 2015

The Recreational Ground in Thame became a buzz of activity last Saturday for the Thame Play Day.

I was volunteering with the Aylesbury & District NCT so got there early to help set up our area. We were offering baby changing facilities and an area for feeding babies. Also we had a couple of activities - playdoh and what proved to be a very popular 9if a tad tricky) Hook-a-Duck!

Mr MoaB brought Little Miss A along for a play. When they arrived she headed straight for the bouncy castle - surprise surprise! Once he'd managed to get her off they wandered around all the other activities. I love the picture of her in a Sumo suit!!

There were so many things to make and do, and all for FREE!

So many different providers of children's activities were there with tasters of what they do. There were sports including football, rugby, karate and archery. Arts & crafts activities were on offer from a local playgroup, an arts club and a nursery. There was also a Health Bus, mini yoga and baby signing. Plus a fire engine which is always a hit with kids!

Refreshments were provided by the local Scout group who were offering fab BBQ burgers and sausages at a great price. We kept going back for more. There was also an ice-cream van.

We were so lucky with the weather. Both days either side were terrential rain but the sun decided to shine on this fantastic family event.

There was a similar event - Thame Play & Activity Day - that we went along to last year which was organised by the Oxfordshire Play Association. This year's event was organised by a friend I know through the NCT along with the local Red Kite Children's Centre. It was much bigger and better than last year so a massive thankyou to them for this fantastic day and for persuading so many people to turn up to offer activities for free! I really hope it becomes an annual event!
