Me & Mine - July 2015

Saturday, 1 August 2015

Joining up again with the Me and Mine Family Portrait Project. Here's July's photo of our little family!

It was taken by a friend on our visit to Ham House & Gardens at the beginning of the month. It looks like Little Miss A is doing a Benny Hill salute!

July Highs:
  • I really enjoyed taking Little Miss A to see the Roald Dahl Parade in Aylesbury town centre at the start of the month. Such a colourful parade with lots of weird & wonderful characters.
  • Both Mr MoaB and I were born in July so it's been a month of birthdays! Mr MoaB's birthday was a quiet one as he travelled back from a work event that day so it was just a takeaway in the evening. My birthday was spent at the Thame Play Day in the morning, then my Mum & Dad visited with cake! My Mum stayed over so that Mr MoaB and I could have a rare date night. We enjoyed a really nice curry in one of our favourite restaurants and then by chance I'd seen that a band were playing in a pub around the corner from the restaurant so we popped along there. It felt strange being in a pub on a date!
  • Before my Mum headed home, we spent a lovely morning exploring all the miniature models at Bekonscot Model Village. Little Miss A's highlight was the train so she got to ride on it twice!
  • We visited Rushmere Country Park for the first time this month and I'm sure it won't be long until we visit again. It's a really lovely park with fairy doors and lots of areas to explore.
  • We used our National Trust membership twice this month. We started the month with a visit to Ham House & Gardens and then paid our 6th visit of the year to Waddesdon
  • Little Miss A had her first cinema experience this month. We took her to see the Minions movie. Not known for sitting still for long, we were amazed she sat through the entire film without moving - she was engrossed! Not sure it will be a regular thing as I'd forgotten just how expensive the cinema is but was fun to take her and we all enjoyed the film.
  • Through my volunteering with the local NCT branch, I helped at 2 events this month. Firstly we had one of our popular Messy Play Days. We were really fortunate with the weather so we could have lots of the messiest activities outdoors! Also, we were at the Thame Play Day organised by the Red Kite Children's Centre.  This was a fantastic event with so many different children's activities to try, all provided for free! Mr MoaB brought Little Miss A along and she loved it - particularly the bouncy castle and drumming.
  • It's been a while since we went on a family walk so we decided to go to Penn Wood. We had no map or real plan, just wandered. We made it extra fun for Little Miss A as we tried to find fairies & elves!
July Lows:
  • We had a camping trip and a holiday scheduled in for July but as I was not back up to 100% strength and Mr MoaB has been incredibly busy at work in the lead-up to the school holidays, we had to change all of our plans. Disappointing but we've started to make new holiday plans and have something to look forward!
  • Mr MoaB works such long hours in the summer. He's usually not back until around 8/9 o'clock. The days can seem very long particularly as Little Miss A is choosing to wake up earlier and go to bed later and later! Although I do love the summer for lots of reasons, I love the winter months when we see so much more of Mr MoaB.

    1. Thanks Katie. I don't do being ill very well so probably did a bit too much too soon at the start of the month, but then rested in the middle of the month and packed a lot in at the end!
